Make yourself at home

Your stay at Aquarius

Everything you need for an easy, comfortable stay—from arriving and enjoying the facilities to checking out on your final day.

Getting around

Aquarius and nearby essentials

Use the map for directions to the building, the Abbott Street parking entrance and useful places within easy reach.

For security, key-safe and after-hours access details are provided privately with your arrival instructions.

Arriving & getting settled

  • Check-in is from 2:00 pm. Early check-in and late check-out must be requested at least seven days before arrival. Requests are subject to availability and confirmation; fees may apply.
  • Keep your security fob with you—it provides access to the main entrance outside reception hours, as well as the lifts, car park and mezzanine level.
  • Your undercover parking space has the same number as your apartment. One vehicle may be parked per apartment. Enter the car park from Abbott Street using your security fob.
  • For everyone’s security, please do not allow unknown visitors into the building and keep your apartment’s corridor door closed.

Pools, barbecue & tennis

  • You’ll find two swimming pools, the barbecue area and the half-sized tennis court on level M.
  • The pools are open from 7:00 am to 9:00 pm. Please supervise children at all times and leave glassware in your apartment.
  • After using the barbecue, please turn off the gas. Remember to return any borrowed tennis equipment when you have finished.

Enjoying your apartment

  • For efficient air conditioning, keep doors and windows closed while it is running and switch it off whenever you go out.
  • Please use the kitchen exhaust fan while cooking and take care to avoid steam or smoke activating the fire alarm.
  • Your apartment includes a washing machine and dryer. Please keep towels and clothing off the balcony railings.

Rubbish & recycling

  • Refuse rooms are conveniently located beside the lifts on every level. Please use the chute only for small, securely tied rubbish bags.
  • Place clean recyclables in the marked bins. Larger items and bags can be taken to the industrial bins in the rear driveway.

A peaceful stay

  • Aquarius is home to permanent residents as well as holiday guests, so please keep noise to a considerate level. Parties and disruptive behaviour are not permitted.
  • Aquarius is entirely smoke-free, including all apartments, balconies and shared outdoor areas.

Before you leave

  • Check-out is by 10:00 am unless we have confirmed a later departure with you in advance.
  • Before leaving, please dispose of your rubbish, load dirty dishes into the dishwasher and switch it on, leave the apartment tidy and place your keys in the return box in the lobby.
  • If you have a car, exit the car park before returning your keys so you retain access to the gate.

Fire safety & severe weather

  • If the fire alarm sounds, leave by the stairwell at either end of the corridor—never use the lifts. Follow the displayed evacuation plan and assemble in the rear driveway.
  • Cairns’ cyclone season generally runs from November to May. Please follow official advice and any updates or instructions provided by your hosts.

Nearby essentials

  • Woolworths is on Abbott Street, around two blocks south of Aquarius.
  • The Cairns Esplanade Lagoon, marina, restaurants, cafés and city attractions are all within easy walking distance.

Preventing accidental fire alarms

Cooking smoke, steam and heat can trigger the fire detectors. Use the kitchen exhaust fan when cooking, never leave cooking unattended, and do not use steam cleaners or other heat-producing equipment directly beneath detectors. Never cover, disconnect or tamper with a detector.

For minor cooking smoke or steam only

If there is no fire, no alarm sounding and it is safe to remain in the apartment:

  1. Keep the apartment’s entrance door closed. Do not release smoke or steam into the corridor, where it can activate the shared fire-alarm system.
  2. Turn off the cooking appliance if safe to do so and close bedroom doors.
  3. Use the exhaust fan and open the balcony doors to allow cooking smoke or steam to disperse outside.

If you see fire, are unsure of the cause of smoke, or hear the fire alarm, follow the displayed evacuation plan immediately. Do not stay to clear smoke. Use the stairs, not the lifts, and call 000 from a safe location.

Fire-service attendance and charges

Once the monitored building alarm alerts the fire service, crews must attend and investigate, even if the alarm appears accidental.

The Queensland Fire Department’s unwanted-alarm attendance charge is currently $1,556.79 for 2026–27 (approximately $1,600), charged to the building’s alarm-monitoring account holder. Where an alarm results from reckless or negligent behaviour, guests may be responsible for applicable attendance and fire-maintenance call-out costs, subject to the booking terms and applicable law. Charges are not automatically payable by a guest simply because an alarm was accidental.
